Becoming certified as a biomedical equipment technician (CBET) demonstrates to employers a certain level of commitment and proficiency in the BMET discipline. The CBET certification is recognized by the International Certification Commission (ICC) and the United States Certification Commission (USCC). Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, as well as, pass an exam (additional requirements may apply). Biomedical equipment technicians analyze, troubleshoot and solve problems relating to the operation of biomedical instruments. These devices are found in a variety of industries, including: hospitals, research centers, homes, intensive care units, and clinics. BMETs play a vital role in patient care through the inspection, maintenance and repair of measuring, recording and monitoring devices. These life-saving devices include infusion pumps, patient monitoring systems, cardiac defibrillators, ventilators, and more. BMETs may also train healthcare providers in the proper usage of equipments and provide technical advice on the purchase of new medical instruments.
