Biomedical Training Courses

Courses within the Biomedical Technology program concentrate on electronics fundamentals, human anatomy and biomedical instrumentation function and troubleshooting. Core electronic concepts along with human anatomy form the building blocks for the study of biomedical instruments as illustrated below:

Biomedical instrumentation function and troubleshooting are extensively studied through project-based lab work.

Biomedical Instrumentation Operation & Troubleshooting

Biomedical instrumentation training courses focus on medical related measuring, recording and monitoring instruments. Students study how bioelectric signals and physiological transducers are used as sensory inputs for various systems. Such systems include recording systems such as electrocardiographs (ECG), patient monitoring systems and physiological measurement devices.

Students train with and troubleshoot various biomedical instruments, portable medical equipment and ICU devices to the electronic component level. Emphasis is placed on common electronic designs and diagnostic techniques as it relates to biomedical instruments.

Electronics Fundamentals

A significant portion of the program includes courses based on core electronic concepts. Concepts such as electronic circuitry, digital logic gates, semiconductors, and power supplies form the foundation for electronic devices, includes those used in the biomedical field. Students study various design and diagnostic methods relating to electronic systems.

Human Anatomy

Human anatomy courses include the study of various human physiological processes and how they can be measured, recorded and monitored by biomedical instruments. Course topics include the cardiovascular system, nervous system, cardiac rhythms, musculoskeletal system, and various physiological mechanisms.
