Entrance Requirements

To qualify for admission into Southern California Institute of Technology as an international student, you must meet the eligibility requirements listed below. Eligible applicants are then selected based on a set of admissions selection criteria, which are also listed below.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply to SCIT as an international student, one must:

  1. Be a minimum 17 years of age; and
  2. Have completed High School (Secondary School); and
  3. Successfully complete the International Student Application (see Application Process for details); and
  4. Meet English Language Proficiency requirements (see below)

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must meet or pass any one of these requirements:

  • TOEFL paper test score of at least 550 (47 for the 2017 revised paper based test) or TOEFL iBT (Internet Based Test) of at least 65; or
  • IELTS minimum band score of 5; or
  • iTEP minimum score of 3.5; or
  • Completion of an accredited college program in the United States; or
  • Completion of a High School Diploma or GED in the United States or other nation where English is the official language of the nation; or
  • A certificate indicating an intermediate ESL program was successfully completed at an institution accredited by a national or regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education

Admissions Selection Criteria

Being eligible to apply to SCIT as an international student does not guarantee admissions. Applications are reviewed and selected based on the following selection criteria:

  • Meeting all eligibility requirements; and
  • Financial capacity to pay for schooling and living costs; and
  • Educational and professional background/achievements; and
  • Personal Statement explaining rationale and motivation to pursue education at SCIT.
