B.S. INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Program Overview

The Information Systems Bachelor’s Degree is a rigorous, heavily lab-oriented program aiming to educate students how to install, troubleshoot and secure IT infrastructures with an emphasis on cybersecurity practices in order to provide a foundation to seek employment within the information systems space. Through hands-on integrated courses, students learn to build network infrastructures made up of reliant, interconnected devices and services to provide feasible data management solutions for businesses of all sizes. Designed in conjunction with the Computer Networking and Cybersecurity program so students are job ready early in the program. Supports a “work while you study” schedule, allowing students to acquire working knowledge of the field as they pursue a degree, combining hands-on instruction with on-the-job experience throughout the program.

This program is a strong choice if:

  • You like troubleshooting, a lot
  • You are a critical thinker and enjoy researching solutions to IT problems
  • You work well independently
  • You are detail-oriented
  • You want to be a specialist in an exciting and growing field that requires regularly learning about new technologies
  • You recognize the importance of real-world experience for advancing in this industry, and are looking for a program that facilitates a “work and gain experience while you study” schedule.
  • You want to build a portfolio of industry-related project experience that can help you when seeking a job.

Courses are offered in 5-week modules scheduled continuously throughout the year, allowing a student to complete a bachelor’s degree in less than three years. Courses are scheduled during evening hours with start times ranging anywhere between 5pm and 9pm, with most courses starting around 6pm. Most modules have a Monday-Thursday schedule with a couple requiring a Friday schedule as well. For details and start dates, please contact the Admissions Office or request for information.

The B.S.I.S. program is offered in the following formats:

BLENDED (PART-CAMPUS/PART-ONLINE)
Some courses are offered on-campus (in-person) whereas others are offered online. Courses containing substantial hands-on labs are generally those offered on-campus utilizing SCIT’s instructional lab facilities.

ONLINE
All courses are taken fully online with trainers utilized for labs completed at home.

B.S.I.S. Curriculum

The B.S.I.S. program’s curriculum is designed to support a hands-on based learning experience that develops skillsets for the design and troubleshooting of network infrastructures, including the services that run on those infrastructures. The program heavily emphasizes topics from various industry recognized certifications, including certifications from CompTIA®, Cisco®, and other organizations relating to information technology and cybersecurity.
